NGO - NACODE

Overview
The Nasike Community Development and Education Center (NACODE) was originally founded by Esther Nasike, a retired teacher and community nurse, as a family planning project offering counseling and education to rural areas of Western Kenya and Eastern Uganda. Now in existence for over two decades, NACODE has evolved to include other community development and health related issues for the poor and illiterate.

The organization has become a recognized leader especially in HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns teaching safe sex practices. NACODE is now beginning new campaigns to deal with the tropical epidemic Malaria and Typhoid. Malaria kills over one million people ever year, most in sub-Saharan Africa. 1/5 childhood deaths here are attributed to the disease.

Appeal for Help and Support
NACODE is touching a forgotten community of nearly one million people exposed to high mortalities that could be reduced through aggressive community action. So far NACODE has been able to reach up to 5,000 plus people and is now targeting 100,000.

International Volunteer Involvement
Through volunteer action many of our programs will receive much- needed human resources-both intellectually and materially- either by direct involvement or financial contributions towards the campaign materials and the teaching resources. We hereby appeal for more volunteers to join in the program.

Who is Qualified to Join?
We are seeking public health students, professionals and other volunteers interested in community health to sign up and get involved with NACODE activities. We are also seeking volunteer grant writers who can visit the program and come up with project proposals to support future NACODE programs

Materials and Supplies Donations
Health education posters, literature and possibly training manuals. Volunteers with artistic skills and photographers are also encouraged to visit the program and bring their input.
